Greetings!
The Clemson University Panhellenic Council welcomes you as a Tiger and invites you to participate in recruitment this Fall. We believe that everyone will greatly benefit from getting to know more about Greek Life. Learning to relate, lead, and share with others are some of the opportunities the Panhellenic system offers you. It is a life full of fun, frivolity, seriousness, and responsibility—a complete learning experience. Even women who do not join sororities feel a great comfort in the transition to college life as a result of meeting so many people through the recruitment activities. The friendships made during recruitment week last a lifetime!
What is the Panhellenic Council?
The word Panhellenic means “all Greek.” The Clemson University Panhellenic Council is the governing body of all National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) organizations on campus and coordinates numerous activities including recruitment. The Council is made up of five executive board members as well as each chapter president and two delegates from every chapter on campus. Clemson has eleven organizations representing about 1800 women. You will see members of the Panhellenic Executive Council during recruitment. Feel free to ask them for assistance.
Panhellenic Creed
We, the undergraduate members of women’s fraternities, stand for good scholarship, for guarding of good health, for maintenance of fine standards, and for serving, to the best of our ability, our college community. Cooperation for furthering fraternity life, in harmony with its best possibilities, is the ideal that shall guide our fraternity activities.
We, the Fraternity Women of America, stand for service through the development of character inspired by the close contact and deep friendship of individual fraternity and Panhellenic life. The opportunity for wide and wise human service, through mutual respect and helpfulness, is the tenet by which we strive to live.
Why should YOU go Greek?
You’ll find all the answers here!
Through the Greek system you can find a home away from home, and new sisters will become some of your closest friends. Sororities can provide opportunities in every aspect of your college life. You will enjoy social mixers, service projects, living on the hall, having friends in just about every major and meeting girls in a variety of organizations on campus. Not only will you make friends in your new chapter, but you’ll meet many women from other chapters through Greek activities.
Scholarship
Panhellenic encourages academic success. Greek women consistently have a higher grade point average than non-Greek women. For example, Fall 2008 semester non-Greek women averaged a 3.39 GPA where women involved in Greek Life averaged a 3.34 GPA. For academic support, chapters provide structured study halls, scholarships, study partner programs, test files, educational programs, and awards to challenge their members to attain their full academic potential.
Leadership
The leadership skills and knowledge you gain through your sorority experience will prove to be invaluable throughout your college career. Numerous leadership positions are available within sororities. Sorority members also hold many leadership positions in other campus organizations. These organizations include: Student Government, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Resident Hall Association, as well as being members of professional and honorary organizations. These leadership opportunities enhance your character and your career development.
Service
Service involvement is also an important part of sorority life. Sororities spend time working together on philanthropy projects and community activities. Each sorority supports at least one national philanthropic organization such as the National Prevention of Child Abuse, National Easter Seals, Ronald McDonald House, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and others.
What is a Pi Chi?
Recruitment is a time to become familiar with the Greek system and to begin new friendships. At times, recruitment can be an emotional and confusing process as one begins to decide which sorority they would feel most comfortable joining. Panhellenic Council representatives have trained a select group of women to assist you through the recruitment process. She is your Panhellenic Counselor, otherwise called your Pi Chi. These women are disaffiliated from their sorority during recruitment in order to devote their time and energy to giving impartial, objective advice and information. Pi Chi’s are knowledgeable on the recruitment rules and procedures. Talk with your Pi Chi; she is a valuable source of information on recruitment and Clemson University, in general. You will meet daily with your Pi Chi to review the day’s activities and receive event assignments. Most importantly, your Pi Chi is your friend available 24 hours a day throughout the recruitment process.
Recruitment Team
The Recruitment Team is made up of the Panhellenic VP of Recruitment and Assistant VP of Recruitment, the Head Pi Chis and the Panhellenic President. We have been working hard to plan recruitment for the fall and are excited for your participation. This web site should provide all the information you need to have a successful recruitment process. If you have any further questions, we will be available all summer. Please feel free to contact the Panhellenic Office at (864) 656-6254 or email us at npcrec@clemson.edu. We look forward to seeing you this fall!
