Clemson Announces A New Spring Festival
April 11-12, 2008
AT LITTLEJOHN COLISEUM ON WEDNESDAY, April 11-12
CLEMSON – Clemson University is ramping up to produce a new spring event around a beloved Clemson tradition. Solid Orange Live is a multi-day event unlike anything Clemson has ever hosted. In addition to the largest Tiger athletic events of the spring, the festival offers a carnival for families, arts, crafts and food vendors and dozens of local, regional and national musical acts. The event will be open to all ages and is geared to attract students, families, alumni, area residents and visitors.
The festival adds to the excitement and fun of an already busy weekend at Clemson University. Tiger fans will cheer for the annual spring Orange and White football game Saturday, April 12, a home baseball series April 11 – 13 against UNC, a women’s tennis match against Maryland and the Solid Orange Classic outdoor track and field meet.
“More than 30,000 people will be coming to campus for athletic events, we built on that to create a showcase for Clemson and to provide entertainment for our 17,000 students and all the fans in town for the weekend,” said Marty Kern, Director of Major Events for Clemson University. “Solid Orange Live has options for those who want to cheer on the Tigers, rock out to live music, or have an unforgettable family outing at the carnival.” “We are thinking of this as our spring Homecoming.” Kat Bartman, student director of TigerPaw Productions said.
Headline artists will be a draw for the festival with live performances on the outdoor stage both Friday and Saturday. Featured performers include; County chart-topper, Rodney Atkins, the reggae band The Wailers, best known for their work with the legendary Bob Marley, the 1980’s rocker, Eddie Money, Wyclef Jean, a founding member of the Fugees and a current top 40 artist, and pop sensation, Colbie Caillat. Solid Orange Live will also afford the opportunity for emerging artists to entertain the Clemson crowd, such as Athens rock band, The Whigs and Jason Reeves, who iTunes called Top Indie Singer/Songwriter of 2007.
Greg D’Angio, booking manager, says more musical acts will be announced in the coming weeks. “Expect the bill to get even better as we confirm additional national artists and make our final selections for local bands. Fans will get an exceptional value and be able to see more than eight concerts for one low weekend price.” D’Angio said. “We selected talented artists that would provide variety while keeping the energy of the festival up all weekend.”
Tickets for the festival go on sale Saturday, March 1st and are available at the Littlejohn Coliseum box office (Mon-Fri, 10am-6pm) and through Ticketmaster outlets and online at www.ticketmaster.com.
Advanced weekend tickets are on sale through April 6 and are $35. Children under 12 will be admitted free. A weekend ticket will allow the purchaser admissions to the festival both Friday and Saturday. The hours of the festival are: Friday 12noon – 1a.m. and Saturday 10a to 12 midnight. (Students with CUID receive a $10 discount made possible by student government.)
Guests are encouraged to save money on tickets by buying early. The week of the show, weekend ticket prices will go up to $50. Daily passes for the show will only be available the day of the show and will cost $30 per day. “We want to give an incentive to plan early and to stay all weekend,” D’Angio said.
A limited number of VIP weekend tickets are available for $110 for adults and $50 for children ages 4 to 12. A VIP ticket includes beverages, exclusive seating, private restroom facilities, and congregation areas inside Littlejohn Coliseum.
All seating is general admission. A ticket allows entrance to the midway of vendors, crafts, food, the kids area and tickets for carnival rides start at just $0.50 each. More detailed information about the festival including directions and parking information is available at www.solidorangelive.com. All car parking will be free this weekend.
Admission to the Orange and White football scrimmage is free and will be held Saturday April 12 at 1 p.m. The annual scrimmage held in Memorial stadium offers Clemson fans a sneak preview of both offensive and defensive teams in a fun atmosphere. After the game, fans have an opportunity to meet the players and get autographs.
